have taught self defense classes for several years and since 1994 I have carried just about every type of Pepper Spray on the market. With the proliferation of over 100 different brands of pepper sprays, they all claim to have the hottest formula, best design and longest range. The National Institute of Justice study showed that pepper sprays are almost always used at distances of 3 feet or less. You don''t need a pepper spray that shoots 25 feet. The NIJ study also showed that cone mist pepper sprays were 90 effective and the stream sprays were about 72 effective. This is because the stream sprays while they may shoot further they are very hard to aim in the dark and they do not affect the suspects breathing. Most pepper sprays are bulky, have twist tops that can accidentally discharge and take too long to activate.
