Created for use in the German Luger semi-auto pistol and introduced in 1902, the 9mm is also known as the Luger, 9x19 and 9mm parabellum (Latin for “prepare for war”). Since its creation the 9mm cartridge has been manufactured by, or for more than 70 different countries and has grown to become the most widely used round for semi-automatic pistols in the world, being used by over half of all police agencies in the U.S.
